What is the maximum capacity of the Multi-110 modular spreader beam?

The Multi-110 has a maximum Working Load Limit of 110 tonnes. up to 11m at 45° STV and up to 14.5m at 30° STV. As the beam is configured to longer spans, the available capacity can reduce, so the load, span and top sling angle should always be considered together when selecting the final arrangement.

What spans are available for the Multi-110?

The Multi-110 covers standard span options across 1.50m to 17.75m. Because it is modular, the beam can be reconfigured for different lifting centres instead of being tied to one fixed length.

The capacity table shows how Working Load Limit and minimum top sling length change through the span range. This makes it easier to choose a configuration that suits both the load and the available lifting geometry.

Does the Multi-110 maintain full capacity at every span?

No. The maximum 110 tonnes Working Load Limit is available only within the shorter standard configurations shown in the capacity table. As the span increases, the allowable capacity can reduce depending on the top sling angle.

This is normal for modular spreader beam systems and is why the span and sling angle should be checked together rather than selecting a beam by capacity alone.

How does top sling angle affect the Multi-110?

The top sling angle has a direct effect on the force carried through the lifting system. The Multi-110 page shows separate capacity data for 45° STV and 30° STV arrangements, together with the minimum top sling length required at each span.

A shallower top sling angle generally requires a longer sling. The selected arrangement should therefore be based on the available headroom, required span and load weight, not just the beam capacity.

What is the maximum top sling angle?

The maximum top sling angle for the standard Multi-110 arrangement is 45° from vertical (45° STV). The 45° and 30° options shown in the capacity table allow the lifting team to compare capacity and minimum sling length for two common rigging geometries.

If the planned lift requires a different top sling geometry, speak to Multisec before selecting the beam so the complete lifting arrangement can be reviewed.

What is the maximum lower sling angle?

The standard lower sling arrangement should remain within 6° from vertical. Keeping the lower slings close to vertical helps the beam distribute the load through the intended end lifting points.

If the lower pick points create a larger angle or an unusual load path, send the load dimensions and lifting-point positions to the Multisec team so the arrangement can be checked before the beam is specified.

What is the Multi-110 typically used for?

The Multi-110 is intended for controlled two-point lifting where the load needs to be supported over a defined span. Typical applications include structural steel, fabricated assemblies, plant and machinery, modular equipment, industrial components and project cargo.

Its modular construction is particularly useful where one lifting system needs to cover several different lifting centres across multiple projects or repeated lifts.

Why choose a modular spreader beam instead of a fixed-length beam?

A fixed-length spreader beam is designed around one set lifting centre. A modular spreader beam can be reconfigured using interchangeable sections, allowing the same system to cover several spans and lifting requirements.

That flexibility can reduce the need to own or transport several separate fixed beams, while still giving the lifting team a defined capacity table for each standard configuration.

How do I choose the correct span and beam size?

Start with three pieces of information: the total lifted load, the required lifting span and the available top sling geometry. Use the capacity checker to see whether the Multi-110 is suitable and compare the capacity table for the selected span.

If the requirement is beyond this model, the checker can point you towards the next standard Multisec beam. For unusual loads, limited headroom or non-standard pick points, send the lift details to our team and we can help with beam selection.

How is the minimum top sling length determined?

The minimum top sling length changes with beam span and sling angle. Longer spans and shallower sling arrangements generally require longer top slings to maintain the required geometry.

The capacity table provides the minimum top sling length alongside the Working Load Limit for each standard span, so the crane hook height and available headroom can be considered during lift planning.

Can loads be applied directly to the modular struts?

No. The standard modular spreader beam is designed to transfer the load through the designated end drop-link positions. Loads should not be suspended directly from the interchangeable strut sections.

If your lift needs additional or intermediate load points, a Multi-Point Lifting Beam or a bespoke engineered lifting solution may be more appropriate.

Is the Multi-110 DNV Type Approved?

Yes. The Multi-110 forms part of the Multisec modular spreader beam range covered by DNV Type Approval. This supports use of the standard system in demanding lifting applications where documented design assurance is important.

The beam should still be selected and assembled to suit the required load, span and sling geometry for the individual lift.
